Development at the risk of communities
2007-03-15

Small and large scale mining and logging are touted to bring “development” to poor rural communities. However, experiences of communities say otherwise. AFRIM’s case study on the Municipality of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental illustrates the impact of such extractive economies to the environment and the local communities.

The study also highlights how civil society and the local government unit worked together to protect their fragile ecology. Their experience tells the story of active stakeholdership and best practices in environmental protection, utilization, resource management and good governance.

AFRIM is publishing this study in its latest issue of Bantaaw. For more information, view the Publications section. For orders, send an e-mail to our Marketing Unit at oneilgm@afrim.org.ph.
