NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

| More

The NRM program works towards the promotion of ecological conservation, protection, rational use and sustainable management of Mindanao’s remaining natural resources. The program believes that poverty alleviation is not possible if it does not involve utilization of a viable and sustainable ecological management framework. Its framework is based on five principles: sustainability, equitability, responsible stewardship, systems orientation, and just peace. Fulfillment of these is aided through its elements that are tri-people focused, promotion of self-determination, gender-responsiveness, participatory and consultative decision-making, decentralized and emancipatory management, and food sovereignty.

The program further expands and strengthens its local, national and regional networks towards the promotion of natural resource management. In order to support regional and local advocacies, it conducts participatory action researches and analyses on mining, logging and monocrop plantation expansion in Mindanao. The program also promotes strengthening of partners' capabilities in order to enhance their campaigns and advocacies through the conduct of development education activities. This is coupled with the production of relevant educational materials on NRM issues in popular format in order to cater wider audience in the local, national and regional level.

The Program supports and campaigns to:

  • Scrap the Mining Act of 1995
  • Stop illegal and commercial logging operations in Mindanao
  • Protect and rehabilitate our remaining natural forests and watershed areas
  • Promote Genuine Sustainable Management of Natural Resources
  • Respect and uphold the Indigenous Peoples’ rights and culture
  • Stop monocrop plantation expansion in Mindanao
  • Promote ecology-friendly organic farming practices
  • Protect and conserve our fragile coastal & marine ecosystem
