AFRIM Special Projects
AFRIM also extends its services and expertise external to its core programmes through special projects under the management of the Office of the Executive Director. Some of its most recent projects include project management and development and commissioned researches and studies related to various development issues on Mindanao.
Among the major on-going projects are the following:
- Development Round Table Series (DRTS) on Agriculture and Food Security in Mindanao
– convenor of the Mindanao Thematic Working Group. This project engages various stakeholders (NGOs, peoples’ organizations, government agencies, academe, private sector, etc.) in a series of round table discussions towards the identification of policy gaps and crafting of possible alternatives and advocacy agenda related to agricultural development and food security in Mindanao. The DRTS process is in partnership with the Focus on the Global South, an NGO that presents critical analysis on national and international policies related to corporate-led globalization, neo-liberalism and militarization.
- Official Development Assistance (ODA) Watch
– is composed of NGOs working on agrarian reform and rural development. Their work involves research, advocacy, and program implementation. The group believes ODA should serve genuine development and thus, work in influencing institutions, policies and practices to address inequitable relations between and among development stakeholders. AFRIM is a core member and had contributed case studies to the recently published Engaging ODA: Lessons in Civil Society Participation.
- ICCO Mindanao Partners Project
– project manager and convenor of, “Building Unities and Strengthening Cooperation of Mindanao ICCO Partners.” The project is a joint undertaking of ICCO partners in Mindanao with the aim of surfacing policy recommendations on Mindanao development.
- Mindanao Studies Consortium Foundation, Inc.
– a community of academic institutions and development organizations that aim to coordinate, facilitate, and disseminate researches and help bridge the gap between theory and practice in the pursuit of peace and development in Mindanao. Its member institutions are: Ateneo de Davao University, Alternate Forum for Research in Mindanao, Capitol University, Dansalan College Foundation, Inc., Mindanao Economic Development Council, Mindanao State University – General Santos City, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, Mindanao State University – Marawi City, Notre Dame University, University of the Philippines in Mindanao, University of Southeastern Philippines, and Western Mindanao State University. AFRIM serves as Treasurer/Fund Manager of the network.
